"Fushigi no Maria-kun" Chapter 5

We are now on the second volume of "Fushigi no Maria-kun"!  There are nine chapters total in this series. Hopefully we'll be able to finish it before the end of the year.  Haha! This is truly a challenging series. The redraws, translation, and typesetting are all horrendous.  But I think it's worth it. This story is very heartwarming and Shiina Dai's dialog is always a treat to translate.

I wish it could have released this chapter in April since it's a story about cherry blossom viewing.  My favorite part of this chapter is the conversation between Maria and Toko's father.  Toko's father, in general, is quite entertaining.  I can't quite figure out the dynamic between him and Maria's mother. In the Japanese it kinda reads vaguely like flirting...but why would he do that in front of his wife??? Haha, maybe I'm reading stuff into it that wasn't intended.

Next Up!  Chapters 5 and 6 of "Rex Fabula"!  Speaking of "Rex Fabula", I have moved it and "Seigi no Mikata!" over to Omari's Sister.  I figured both series are well within being PG-13, so it's okay to post them here.  Plus, it's less work for me to actively maintain two blogs.  "Kemono Kingdom" and the one-shot will also be moved here.  "Servamp" will stay at Bakeneko's Lair because it is extremely violent (by my standards).

"Fushigi no Maria-kun" Bonus Story: "The Wounds that Cover Us" (Manshinsoui no Futari")

This is the extra short one-shot included in "Fushigi no Maria-kun" Volume 1.  It's a cute little high school romance story.  I always like it when authors are able to tell a complete story in very few pages.

"Fushigi no Maria-kun" Chapter 4

First of all, and this has nothing to do with "Fushigi no Maria-kun", there's a great Taiwanese live action version of "Skip Beat" in the middle of its run.  It's up to episode 4.  If you aren't watching it, go watch it!  It can be found in "the usual places" (don't ask, because I'm not telling).

And now onto "Fushigi no Maria-kun"!

It's been a while since we've had a chapter!  As I've written before, this series is a challenge in every way.  I'll like to thank Noir and Ichi for doing a wonderful cleaning and redrawing this chapter.  They really pulled off some magic :).  We'll try to get the next chapter out next month, but there's no guarantee.  Every pages has some crazy redraw, so it takes a while T_T.

In this chapter we get an early start on Valentine's Day and I think we can all guess where this chapter is going.  Hahaha!  Yes, it stays well within the shoujo mold, so just sit back and enjoy all of your favorite shoujo Valentine's Day troupes done up "Fushigi no Maria-kun" style.  Needless to say, Maria is adorable!  Page 22 melted my heart :3.  We also see Toku lose it for the first time, which is pretty frightening.  Actually, I didn't expect her to be that dark.  Hahaha!  I like that bit of surprise, though.

Next up is "Ore to Atashi no Kareshi-sama" chapter 1.  I've been eagerly awaiting to finally translate this.  Sorry it's taking so long.  This series is also a pain-in-the-butt to edit.  I think we will be able to do this series every other month because of its difficulty.  It should be out before next weekend, if all goes as planned.  There are also some one-shots that are being typeset that could appear any day!

And with this, I bid you goodnight.  I will be settling in with Skip Beat.  The Taiwanese drama has inspired me to re-read the entire series.  My bookshelf is so heavy with all 26 volumes that are now available now from Viz.

Fushigi no Maria-kun Chp 3

Tonight was anime night and I was wasn't sure whether I was going to be able to post this tonight at all, so I did a quick post earlier.  Now I have time to write a full post.

This is the third chapter for "Fushigi no Maria-kun" and this time we get to see matters from Maria's perspective.  My gosh is Maria sweet and huggable!  I liked translating this chapter a lot.  Maria's inner monologues are beautifully written in Japanese.  I hope I was able to translate some of that beauty into English.  Shiina Dai never ceases to amaze me with her simple but poignant dialog.

More Thoughts About this Chapter
What ran through my mind while reading this chapter is how much Maria's worries seem like the same hand wringing and internal conflict that goes along with being in an interracial couple.  Depending on the make up of the couple there are various social stigmas and dealing with parents and family that can drive a person nuts.  Knowing from personal experience, it takes a lot of love to push through.  Things are much better now for certain types of interracial couples, but I will be honest and say that first visit to the parents is always the hardest.  This leaves me to wonder about whether the story is going to deal Tokuko's father and Maria.  It seems that the chanting was specially made to ward the poor boy off. Hahaha!  I guess I should sneak a peek ;p.

What's Next!
We're well on our way to completing our big special Halloween one-shot "In the Mirror Death" by Fujiwara Hiro, the same mangaka who draws/writes "Kaichou wa Maid-Sama".  Before then, I hope to at least release Rex Fabula chapter 3 on Bakeneko's Lair.  It looks like the rest of what we have planned will get bumped into November so we can bring you the next chapters of "Yukarism" and "Magnolia" as soon as possible.

Fushigi no Maria-kun Chapter 2

Once again, "Fushigi no Maria-kun" proves to be our most difficult series to typeset.  Hopefully we caught all of the errors.  Anyhow...Maria and Toko continue on with their evolving relationship.  I really like how this chapter shows us the weirdness that happens when a childhood friendship starts to blossom into something more.  I like how the vampirism isn't the focus of the story, but rather the backdrop.  I also like how the story is staying focused on Toko and Maria.  I must admit that I love this kind of innocent sweetness.

Next up is the second of our fall one-shots from Kuro Lala.  It is call "Girl on a Platter" and it's by Meca Tanaka ("Pearl Pink" and "Faster than a Kiss").  Like most Meca Tanaka works, this one-shot is very sweet, but with a very pervy undertone.  A lot of the perviness is evident in the Japanese.  I hope I'm able to translate it well in English without overshadowing the central story, which is very much Shiina Dai's "World End Garden".

Series Debut: "Fushigi no Maria-kun" Chp 1

 

At last!  Phew!  Getting this first chapter together was quite a struggle!  Every page had at lease one crazy redraw, so let's give praise and thanks to Silver Lunar, Ichigo Stars, and Kumiko for working so hard to get this release done!  Here's a quick summary from the inner flap:

I don't know if we will be able to release this series on a monthly basis given the difficultly and the number of redraws in each chapter.  We will do our best to release a chapter every 4 - 6 weeks.  If you are a person with some serious Photoshop skillz (drawing and clone stamping) who could lend us a hand with this series, that would help a lot to keep us on track.  Please use the contact link in the menu bar to contact me.

Fushigi no Maria-Kun Preview!

Here's a preview of our newest series, "Fushigi no Maria-kun"!  This is a 9 chapter series by Shiina Dai, the same artist who brought us "World End Garden", which is my favorite one-shot of all time!  Like "World End Garden" is series has a good range of emotions (though it doesn't reach the gloomy depths of WEG) and a richly complex relationship between to the two main characters.  I'm really looking forward to releasing the first chapter.  So, to get you ready for what's in store, here's a preview of the first chapter! (Please forgive any errors you may find.  This has not been QC'ed or proofread yet.)

The first chapter is scheduled to release on August 24th!  Please look forward to it!
