3rd Anniversary Wrap-up! Shiro Lala One-Shot: "Taiyou no Yuki" ("The Sun's Snow") by Yukichi Nakamura

This is the last of the Shiro Lala one-shots that we plan to release. It's a play on a familiar American fairytale :) ("thumpity, thump, thump, thump...") with just a touch of another fairytale invoked by the protagonist's nickname.  Haha! This one-shot took me by surprised considering that this is the same mangaka who gave us that messed up doll shop one-shot in Kuro Lala.  I now look forward to see what Nakamura-sensei come up with next :).

With this, we wrap up our 3rd anniversary celebration! We managed to do 18 releases in a month! That's pretty amazing considering the size of our core group.  A big thanks goes out to our translators Jade, Blottyparchment, and Amrai for all their hard work over the past few months on these one-shots.  Also a big thanks to Suzume who did a lot of the cleaning and to Ichigo Stars who tirelessly did most of the redraws for most of the one-shots and series we released this month.  And finally, a huge thanks to Holanio for lending us her typesetting skills and to our newest typesetter Kiruku Naru for pitching in when we really needed help!

Our next one-shot party will occur during the month of October! We will be sharing a bunch of spooky one-shots and short-series for your Halloween enjoyment.  Also, in August we will be focusing on water themed one-shots!  Look forward to it!  July, though, we will be focused on our series!  For now, though, we're taking a little break and we'll be back in about a week with our next release!

Shiro Lala One-Shot: "Twinkle Loop Story" by Ayu Nozaki

I hate katakana. Up until yesterday, I thought the title of this one-shot was "Twinkle-Poo Story". Apparently the mangaka was being clever in a non-native language and I was supposed to see how the "ru" was multitasking as the "le" in "Twinkle" and the "loo" in "Loop"...ugh...I hate the Japanese version of English. Why can't you use Japanese words!!!  *Bangs head* Katakana is the bane of my existence. Anyhow...a kind and more learned soul set me straight.  Thank you higher power! Indeed! I learned something new yesterday!

This is one of my favorite all time one-shots.  It comes in behind "World's End Garden", "Souai Metaphysica", and the Yuu Toyota one-shots.  I guess that makes it number 5 on my list.  It was nothing like I was expecting.  From the title and the title page, I was expecting something cute and stupid, but it turned out to be very, very sweet, with a twinge of the tragedy that runs through most of the Shiro Lala one-shots.  This one, though, ends happily, so please don't skip it.

Next up!  At last!  I get to finally finish the first chapter of "Pochama ni"...that is, after I finish prepping the final Shiro Lala one-shot, "The Sun's Snow" for typesetting.  Hahaha!  We'll see which one gets released first later this week.  Timing's a little screwy, so we won't have a new release for our official anniversary.  Rather I'll post a list of our all time top ten releases, both series and one-shots, and you readers can explore your favorite Omari's Sister releases :).

Happy Shiro Lala One-Shot: "Bride on Loan" by Ririko Tsujita

I know I said the next one-shot would be gloomy and hella messed up, but things got out of order, and this one-shot is ready to be released instead.  This is actually a good thing because I wanted to break up the gloom.

This is a short light-hearted one-shot.  Since Ririko Tsujita is a new mangaka for me, I had a hard time with her writing style.  I'd like to thank Amrai for the helping me with the translation.  Tsujita-sensei, apparently, doesn't like letting people know who's talking and what specifically they are talking about...sigh...well...I guess this one-shot was a learning experience for me :).

One-Shot: "See You Again" by Junko Ike

I'm starting to notice a running theme in these Shiro Lala one-shots.  I imagine it's because in Japanese culture white is associated with death, which is an opposite notion for Westerners.  If you're still recovering from "Souai Metaphysica", then perhaps you ought to wait a day or two before reading this one-shot.  It's a short one-shot, but it packs a lot of punch for 16 pages.  I think this one-shot ends on a better note than "Souai", but still...sigh...haha!  Unfortunately, the next chapter of AnS is not gonna pull us out of the sorrow hole :(.  But don't worry, the light is coming soon.

One-Shot: "Souai Metaphysica" ("Mutual Love Metaphysica") by Mikase Hayashi

You might want to get out a couple of tissues for this one-shot. I had a hard time completing the translation because I started bawling halfway through.  I'm a sucker for stories about unrequited love and for some reason the whole notion makes me incredibly sad.  This is a beautiful one-shot, and I hope you all enjoy it.  We will release Hayashi-sensei's other one-shot from Kuro Lala within the month, so look out for it.

Omari's Sister 3rd Anniversary Celebration Begins! One-Shot: "Wild Wing" by Yumi Kiiro

First of all, a teaser for our new series coming in June. Linky-link!

Omari's Sister started doing scanlations back on June 26, 2009.  At that time it was a one-person group and the first project was Ouran High School Host Club chapter 71. I only did that scanlation because I was tired of waiting for chapters to be released. I had no intention of taking this any further. But then true to shoujo scanlation culture, some friction arose over Ouran and the prideful and stubborn side of me took hold and I continued on with Ouran. I admit at that time, I entered scanlation not knowing any of the silent rules of courtesy and I pissed off a few groups without initially knowing why.  Hahaha!  Well, I've never been one to play be the rules, so scanlation and doing whatever I like are not out of character for me. I've learned to temper myself over the years, and I'm better for it.

Silver Lunar and Kuma Chan were the first members to join the group.  Kuma Chan drops in once in a while to proofread and Silver Lunar to this day does a whole lot of the cleaning and redrawing.  Members have come and gone and I've had fun with all of them.  Thank you all for contributing your talents over the years.  I look forward to many more years with Omari's Sister and I can't wait to meet the new people who will join the group in the future.

That's all I'll say for now.  I'll post again about the progress the group has made since its founding.  We've made leaps and bounds with both translation quality and image editing quality over the years.

And now onto our first celebratory release! "Wild Wing" is the long one-shot that was featured in Shiro Lala.  It's by Yumi Kiiro, the mangaka who brings us the "Library Wars" manga series.  A lot of group members contributed to this one-shot.  Jade did a wonderful job on the translation with Amrai's and Kotomi's assistance, Silver Lunar cleaned and redrew most of this bad boy, Ichigo Stars worked her magic with the crazy redraws, and Holanio survived a typesetting marathon.  Hahaha...and me...well, as usual, I put the final polish on the images and script to give the project that "Omari's Sister feel".

My thoughts on "Wild Wing"

I like this one-shot a lot, though, I felt the transitions in the story were a little abrupt and choppy.  This is especially visible in the way Miyabi's father is handled.  I think that could have been resolved by making the story into a one-volume short-series rather than a one-shot.

Shiro Lala One-shot: "The Wizard and the Love Potion"

This is a really sweet one-shot.  As of now this is tied with "Dinner in my Coffin" as my favorite Shiro Lala one-shot.  This one-shot had tough redraws on nearly every page, so I would like to thank Ichigo Stars and Kumiko for all the work they put in to make the release of this one-shot possible.  It's beautiful, you guys!  I really appreciate it.

This one-shot plays with fairytale troupes.  It feels very familiar, but I think this one-shot was well done, so I enjoyed the "remix".  If you haven't read Toyota Yuu's other one-shot "The Honeybee Earl and the Flower Dress", you may want to.  It's a nice companion to this one-shot.

Up Next!

I'm working on plans for December.  There are a bunch of series chapter and one-shots that are half done. I would like to complete these hanging projects before moving onto new material.  I'm going to spend this month completing these chapters and one-shot so we can have a fresh start in January.  We will still be doing "Akagami no Shirayukihime" chapter 28 as promised.  It's just that Yukarism and Magnolia may get released later this month or in January.

Speaking of "Yukarism", it's going on hiatus again after only two chapters.  It will resume at the end of January.  It sounds like Shiomi-sensei needs a rest.  Let's all wish her well and hope that she feels better soon.

Shiro Lala One-Shot: "Ginsekai no Shoumei" by Akiduki Sorata

Here is Akiduki Sorata's Shiro Lala one-shot "Ginsekai no Shoumei" ("The Snowscape's Emblem").  The image above is a scan of one of the freebie post cards.  The large size image (click on the image to see it larger) can be used as wallpaper on your PC or mobile.

A note about the spelling of "Akiduki".  A few people have asked me about the change in the spelling.  I had been spelling it "Akidzuki" and "Akizuki" is another common spelling.  The mangaka herself began romanizing her name and the titles of her works a few months ago.  Whether right or wrong, she has been consistently spelling her name "Akiduki".  Since that's her preferred spelling, I'm using it.  That is not the proper romanization, but...when using roman letters to generate hiragana and katakana づ is "du", so perhaps that's where she's getting it from.

Moving onto the one-shot!  In my opinion this is the best one-shot from Akiduki-sensei that this group has released.  The characters are interesting and their interaction is nice.  The end, though, leaves much to be desired,  It's very rushed and doesn't fit considering what happened to make the main female lead, Leah, return home.  There should have been more conflict and reflection on Leah's part about leaving home for a second time.  I think this would have worked better as a 50 - 60-page one-shot or a 2 or 3 chapter short series.

We have one more Shiro Lala that we want to get out immediately -- Toyota Yuu's "The Magician and the Love Potion".   Hopefully, we can get that out this weekend. After that, we will go back to our regular schedule on our series, plus 2 or 3 one-shots a month.  Through Spring 2012, we will be releasing one-shots from Kuro Lala and Shiro Lala, so look out for them!  The next Shiro Lala one-shot will by Sakura Tsukuba's "Sabaki no Mon".  It will be released in early December.

Shiro Lala One-Shot: "Dinner in My Coffin" by Nari Kusakawa

How could I resist a one-shot with a title page like this!?  It's soooo pretty!  This is actually a scan of the one of the post cards that comes with Shiro Lala.  The other post cards are a clean version of the Shiro Lala cover (Akiduki Sorata's drawing from her one-shot) and "Wild Wing".  But I digress...the idea of an all white vampire is cool.  I like the white bats too.  The concept is very nice and different.

I really liked this one-shot.  It felt very mature for what's usually in Lala, without being "adult".  I wish there were more one-shot like this. Ashleigh is definitely my new favorite vampire.

Oh!  For a giggle, read this one-shot a second time, but pay close attention to the dog Pia.  The dog is priceless.

Next up is the return of "Seirei Produce" followed by our Thanksgiving one-shot and then some more Shiro Lala until I get Aria and Betsuhana magazines.

Shiro Lala One-Shot: "The Sullen Baker and Me"

This unexpectedly became the first one-shot we released from Shiro Lala.  Please forgive us if you've already read this from Mousou Scans.  We were well on our way to completing this one-shot when they released it, but I didn't want to waste the cleaning and redrawing work that had already been done and we did announce our intention to do this one-shot weeks back, so I decided to just crank this out now since it's short.

Anyhow, this one-shot is very different than what we are used to from Matsuri Hino.  It's a very simple story and the character designs aren't as lush as we are used to.  At first I was very surprised and disappointed because it was too far away from my expectations.  But...after actually doing the formal translation, I came to appreciate this simple story and I like the Baker.  Still, though, it's very slice of lifey, which isn't my thing.  My advice to readers is to disconnect your expectation of a Matsuri Hino work and take this one-shot for what it is.

The Cover is sooooo cute!  It's from Akiduki Sorata's one-shot.  Anyhow...Shiro Lala is here!  We will be doing this in conjunction with the Kuro Lala one-shots.  This isn't all of the one-shots.  These are the ones that caught my eye and this list is in no particular order.  Here's what we have on deck.

November at Omari's Sister

We need fall banners!  Send in your fall banners! The width is 1200-pixels and the height has to be less than 350-pixels.

October was a wild ride.  We had a big snag which caused us to have to re-clean 4 releases...ugh...Fortunately, the team was up to the challenge and we've almost made up the lost time.  October brought us some exciting news.  "Seirei Produce" is back from a year long hiatus and a treat of a series, "Ore to Atashi no Kareshi" popped up in Asuka magazine.  Hooray!

On a sad note, we dropped "Pika Ichi".  I kept an eye on the chapters for the past 6 months and the story didn't improve and moved farther away from the kind of series that fits Omari's Sister.  I would have liked it if the story focused more on studying the characters and their relationship rather than using kidnapping to drive the story along.  Hopefully another group that's into that kind of shoujo will take the series on.  As of now, though, I have no takers lined up.

No new members joined, but we are saying goodbye to Black Russian. Let's wish him well.  In terms of recruitment, I do have an immediate need for one or two experienced image editor who can do complex redraws. Now onto November!  Shiro Lala is coming on November 11th!  In combination with Kuro Lala, we will be quite busy.  We've decided to very flexible with our releases for the next few months to allow us to be able to release as many of these one-shots as possible.  Here's what he will bring you in terms of series in November:

• Fushigi no Maria Chp 4
• Seirei Produce Chp 7

Kuro Lala and Shiro Lala One-shot Party?

I've looked at the series we're doing and the resources and we will do half and half.  This means that we will be doing one-shots for Kuro Lala and Shiro Lala through-out the rest of the fall and winter :).  There will be no set schedule for the one-shot releases.  They'll get done as they get done!

So far Omari's Sister's volunteers and a lot of the readers are enthusiastic about the Kuro Lala and Shiro Lala one-shots.  I'm now working on a schedule that will allow us to do most of the one-shots and maintain a decent pace on our series.  We will not interrupt Magnolia, Yukarism, and Akagami no Shirayukihime.  The other series, we will release as they get done in November and December.  In January, we will return to regular releases of series and 2 or 3 one-shots per month.  During this one-shot party, we will release the one-shot by our most beloved mangaka first and introduce you all to some little known mangaka as we finish the project in 2012.  We will also throw in some one-shots that are not from Kuro or Shiro Lala. These were planned and begun months ago, so I want to release them too.  Here's the beginning of the list of the stuff from Kuro Lala that will do (will add to the list as I get them into my computer).  If there's a particular one-shot on this list that you are burning to read, leave a comment.  This will help me figure out the priority of projects.:

Kuro Lala:

• "Kachuu no Ou" by Kure Yuki -- A historical one-shot with lots of bishies
• "Inori Hana" ("Prayer Flower") by Hayashi Mikase -- Nothing good can come of a guy who looks like Edgar Allan Poe telling a story of a little girl who starts off caught in a bear trap and eventually gets hold of a very big knife.
• "Genei Realism" ("Phantom Realism") by Toone Suka -- A female high school student's shadow is a creepy gansta looking guy.  There's blood on her hands, a knife, and a baseball bat involved...this story looks REALLY creepy.
• "Sabaku no Requiem" -- A singing Shinigami wanders the desert, singing people to death. This looks like it could be very moving.
• "Yadokari Hanpa" ("The Rental Main Office") by Onda Shizuru -- A renter is haunted by the ghost of his dead fiancee.  His nosy landlord forces his help upon the frightened tenant.
• "Access" -- The first chapter of a series that runs in Lala DX.  This series revolves around cursed text messages.
• "F no Meikyuu" ("F's Labyrinth") -- Psychic teenage detective investigate the case of a missing teen. 
• "The Red House" by Yamada Sarueru -- Stay the **** away from the Red House.  Nothing good happens there.  Seriously, it's horrifying. It'll land you in the hospital.  -- Okay, no not really. I just thought that sounded cool ;p
• "Tsuki no Kanon" ("The Moon's Canon") by Seitou Ken
• "Katakoi" by Nanri Jun -- heheheh...gonna keep mum on this one because it's better than way :)

Here's some more information about Shiro Lala.  More mangaka have been announced and there are some teasers for the one-shots.  Sorry, I don't have time to completely translate the advertisement, but hopefully this is enough info and pictures to get you excited.  We will try to bring you most of these one-shots.  I'll present of the schedule of releases once I have the magazine in hand and decide which one-shots we will translate.  I'm totally psyched!  We still have so much to do from Kuro Lala.  Haha!  We'll get though both magazines eventually (Click on the images to see a larger version).
