"Ouran High School Host Club" August 2011 Special Chapter

This special chapter isn't what I expected from the preview teaser, but it does fit in perfectly with our "Spooky One-shots" Fall theme.  This little ghost story is a nice transition from summer to fall, so all is forgiven, though, I really wanted TamaxHaru happy married love-love short.  Can you imagine how "stoopid" a pregnant Haruhi chapter could be?  You'd have craziness from Tamaki, Renka, and nutty Tamaki's Dad to deal with on that.  Anyhow...on to the links:

Next up!  Next up are the two latest "Hana Kimi" After Story shorts.  The first one features Kayashima and the Himejima twins (they were featured in an omake) and the other one features Nakatsu.  Hooray for Nakatsu!!!

Ouran High School Host Club July 2011 Special Chapter

This is the first of two planned Ouran short stories appearing in Lala magazine to commemorate the OHSHC live action drama.  This one-shot centers around Mei and Kasanoda who were revealed to an item in the extras from Volume 18.  It's a cute one-shot.
Update 7/25/2011:  Update to the translation of Mei's dialog on page 12.  It's different enough to warrant re-download for archiving purposes, but the change doesn't impact the story.

As for the preview of the next special chapter, it reads:  "Can anything be done to stop Haruhi and Tamaki's heart throbbing delusion...!?"  Ouran will also be on the cover of Lala 10.

Next up...hmm...I don't know yet...

New Ouran High School Host Club Special Chapters are Coming!! Kuro Lala!! and More!!

I just got Lala 9 today and there's an Ouran special chapter in it!  There I will postpone the last two releases scheduled this month to get that out ASAP.
The chapter will be continued into Lala 10!  Ouran will also be on the cover of Lala 10!  So we will be getting at least 2 special Ouran chapters!  Yay!

    Kuro Lala!!

There also something call "Kuro Lala"  (Black Lala) coming out in September.  This is part of Lala magazine's 35th anniversary.  I will do my best to get my hands on this Special collection of material from the folks at Lala.  If it's like the Natsume Yuujinchou special magazine, then it will sell out immediately.  If you want a copy, please let me know, and I'll place an order for you when I buy my copy.

And finally, some goodies from Lala 9.  Here are some Lala 35th anniversary commemorative illustrations from our favorite artists!

    Hana to Yume Announcements!
    • It looks like there will be some special "Hana Kimi" chapters starting in issue 17.  I'm still trying to verify this.
    • There are special "The Scarecrow of Oz" and "Furou Kyoudai" chapter in the latest issue!

Ouran Volume 16 is Available from Viz!

I meant to announce this weeks ago.  Sorry :(.  Anyhow, "Ouran High School Host Club" volume 16 is available now from Viz.  I recommend this translation over anything available in scanlation.  It is superior :).  The book is available now through the special Ouran section I set up in the Omari's Sister Amazon Store.   Click here to buy and support Ouran, Hatori-sensei, and Omari's Sister with your purchase :).

Ouran High School Host Club Volume 18 Extras

First of all, let me encourage you to buy this volume in Japanese, whether you can read it or not (you should have the translation already), in order to directly support Hatori-sensei.  Here are some links to online stores:
And now onto the good stuff.  Like somebody else commented in the teaser post, these extras should give most everyone a satisfying end to the "Ouran High School Host Club" series.  I still want more Kyouya...but I'll live, I suppose.  Also...I shouldn't complain too much since I did get this (as written in the chatbox while I was struggling with the Barcelona extra chapter):
I would gladly give up this 60-page monstrosity for 6-page short of TamaXHaru snuggling on a couch on Friday night watching Netflix...as a needed rest after a good performance on midterms...
Wahahaha!!!!  I enjoyed EVERY pixel of the couch snuggling omake *wide grinz*.  And for that moment of joy, I humbly thank Hatori-sensei.

Update 05/09/2011: changed and "of" to "or" on Kyouya page.
Update 04/24/2011:  Included minor edits from Tarasaur (missed sleep bubbles on page 16)
Links to  the "Ouran High School Host Club" volume 18 extras:  (Zip) (PDF -- mobiles and tablets) RETIRED

I have no additional comments to make about the extras here because I've been posting my thoughts in the chatbox and because I put a few comments in the release itself.  I hope you all enjoy it!  Also, as with all of the Ouran stuff, this release will expire in a month.  I encourage you to purchase the official Viz translation of Volume 18 when it comes out sometime in 2012.  I will, of course, post purchase links as Viz releases the remaining volumes.

    Next up!
If all goes well, hopefully, I will be able to release "Akagami no Shirayukihime" chapter 24 by the end of this month.  If not, then it will come out a day or two after "Magnolia" chapter 10.

Oh! and Happy Easter to all of you who celebrate :)

    Ouran Volume 18 Extras Teaser

It's coming soon *SQUEE*!!!!  There are actually several extra pages interspersed throughout the volume and most of it is in Hatori-sensei's barely legible chicken scratch kanjis.  I will start working on it tomorrow.  I think I'll get the omake and the thank you pages out tomorrow and then release the other extra pages day by day while I finish up AnS Chp 24 and "3-Hearts".
The extra pages between the chapters show all the Ouran main characters and a few of the secondary characters grown up.  These pages are definitely squeal worthy and I want to give them the time they deserve to translate.  I have an extra hard time with handwritten kanjis T_T.  They make my eyes bleed...so it's best if I take them in small doses so I don't get too frustrated.

Ouran High School Host Club January 2011 Special Chapter

Update:  Files updated to correct the spelling of various locations and people talked about this chapter.  Big thanks for zronoa for the information.
    ------------------------------
First of all, I would like to thank the cleaners for helping me get this out so promptly.  You guys are wonderful and generous with your time and talent.

Now, just a warning: this special chapter does not move the story forward.  There are no big revelations or character developments.  Rather it's like an extra-long chapter of a normal Ouran story.  When I first saw that's what this was, I was rather disappointed because like so many of you, I wanted a graduation, a proposal, marriage, kids, or something along those lines.  Disappointment can happen when 3 months of anticipation goes unfulfilled.  Anyhow...I got over it after I finished the translation and started typesetting and the final image editing.  With respect to other Ouran chapters, this one is on par with what usually happens in an Ouran chapter -- the Host Club comes to the rescue of some special guest.

    (Spoilers Ahead)
    My Thoughts on the Chapter:
I think the chapter focused too much on the setting of Barcelona. ( I don't mean to make less of Barcelona.  I've been there and I could ramble on for hours about it.  That city blew my mind with respect to architecture and food.  Believe me, I understand Hatori-sensei enthusiasm.)  Yes, I like a background, but 7 or 8 pages of it before the story actually begins is a little much.  This was keenly felt while I was translating.  Fortunately, I've been to Barcelona 4 or 5 times on business trips, so I didn't have to struggle with the Katakana for Spanish names.  Once the story gets going, I thought it was enjoyable enough.  The quipping between Kyouya and Nanako was cute and witty, though, I was sad to see no sense of attraction coming from Kyouya...booooo...As always the twins are funny, though, it really isn't a shock that they want to go to art school.  I think that was made clear in the previous short one-shot involving their grandmother.  As for the TamaXHaru moments they were cute, but there weren't enough and they didn't last long.  Honestly, I really want to know about them.  Haruhi has some serious issues that need to be dealt with and I felt that this was a cop out.

The fountain thing + The Sagrada Familia -- I wonder if this is a little hint about a future special chapter in which Haruhi and Tamaki come back to Spain in 10-years as part of the "Fountain Curse" and the little promise made at the beginning of the chapter.  I think if that happens, I can forgive all the Barcelona travel propaganda.

    Supplementary Info for the chapter:
The Sagrada Familia -- If I can find my pictures of it I will do a another blog post.  It is an AMAZING architectural feat.  It is beautiful and over the top tacky at the same time.  Those of you studying structural engineering will drool at the organic shapes.

Antonio Gaudi -- An amazing architect.  There are buildings and spaces he designed scattered throughout Barcelona.  They are weird and really capture the imagination.

Monï½”serrat Monastery --  Home of the "Black Madonna".  This is another amazing place to visit while in Barcelona.  The buildings look like they are building into the rocky landscape and the Monastery is amazing.  Visitors are allowed to tour the cloisters.  There's lots of art and the Black Madonna to see. Again, if I can find my pictures, I will share them.

Carmen -- an opera (Link 1)(Link2)

Don Quixote -- a novel by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra
    -------------

Next up are J+K chapter 7 and Magnolia chapter 7!

    Ouran Special Spoiler

Here are my three favorite pages from the January 2011 Ouran special chapter.  The rest of the one-shot is mostly the story of "special guest star"  poor little rich girl Nanako sandwiched in a Barcelona travel brochure.  So, no, it's not really about Kyouya either.  It's more like a normal random chapter of Ouran in which the Host Club helps some person in distress.  Anyhow, please enjoy this preview.  We'll try to get the rest of the one-shot completed before the end of the month.

    Lala 3 2011

Lala 3 comes with a Tamaki and Haruhi cellphone fob.  It's maybe a little over an inch tall (a lot smaller than I expected, but it is for a cellphone ;p).

We will only be translating the Ouran special chapter.

Ouran Special Short Story and Commemoration

The Ouran Commemoration in Lala Special issue 12/2010 contains a lot of stuff.  I stuck to the stuff that was most interesting to me and took into consideration what might appear in Volume 18 when it's finally released in English.  Five chapters were selected as key chapters to re-read.  They are chapters 4, 20, 36, 52, and 80.  These key chapters were reprinted and took up the bulk of the commemoration.  Interspersed between the chapter re-prints were interviews and Ouran trivia.  I imagine most of this stuff will appear when Volume 18 is finally released in English from Viz, plus, my interest level is low, so I decided not to translate it.  At the end, a 60-page sequel one-shot was announced.  It will appear in Lala 3, which releases in Japan on January 24th 2011.  We will, of course, translate it and it will be posted on this blog for a month.  Here is the preview:

And now for the short story.  It's only 6-pages, but it's fun! Though, I was hoping for something longer that actually extended the story...

This will be retired at the end of February when we retire the January 2011 one-shot.

I have retired "Ouran High School Host Club."  We will translate any follow-on work or series.

Ouran High School Host Club Chapter 83

At last! Here is the final chapter of "Ouran High School Host club." I'd like to thank everyone for hanging in there with me for the last 12-chapters of this series. I've come along way as a translator and an image editor since I reluctantly started this series last year.

If you enjoyed Ouran and want to reread it, I encourage you to purchase the manga in Japanese or in English.  In the US, volume 1 - 14 are available from Viz.  Here's a convenient link to my Amazon store where you can purchase all the available volumes of Ouran from Viz (currently, there's a 4 manga books for the price of 3 deal going).  At least buy a volume or two to let Viz know you like Ouran and that you want them to continue providing us with similar manga series.  Plus, if you buy from my Amazon store, I'll receive a tiny referral payment.  As for the Japanese version, I recommend purchasing from YesAsia or Amazon Japan.  I think buying the Japanese version will more directly help the mangaka.  Akadot also has volumes of the series available, but their pricing is way too high for me to recommend them for this particular series.

And finally -- yes, I will translate any new content that appears in the upcoming Lala Special and if there is a following-on series or special Ouran stories in any of the Lala affiliated magazines, I will translate those as well.  Also, I will be purchasing volume 18 in Japanese for the bonus content and if there is more comic material, I will translate it.  Also, as for retirement of the series, it will happen as scheduled at midnight October 31st.  All follow-on content will also be posted for only a month.

Next up! "Junketsu + Kareshi" Chapter 3 -- *fangurl squee*
