"Akagami no Shirayukihime" Chapter 32

I'm delirious, so if what I write makes no sense, come back in a couple of days and I will have fixed it.

This is such a cute title page.  Obi in a tie looks strangely modern.  Before I forget, you may want to buy a copy of Lala 5 for some sweet AnS freebies (Pen pouch and Clear Bookmarks).

This chapter is very cute.  We learn a little about Obi, though I was hoping for more, but I'll take what I can get.  Just as a translator's note, I took a little editorial liberty on page 26 because the Japanese have a way of talking in double negatives that drives me up the freaking wall.  Forgive me translation purists, but I was gonna stab my eyes out if I let it stay that way.

Dual Release: Akagami no Shirayukihime Chp 31 and the February 2012 Omake

And now onto the chapters!

Obi looks very nice on this title page.  I would like to see a clean version of this drawing. Moving on, this is the "onsen" chapter.  It always amazes how manga and anime, regardless of the over arching nature of the work, manages to either throw in an onsen, umi (beach), or swimming pool chapter/episode.  Honestly, I never expected to see such a chapter in AnS. Back to Obi...this chapter continues Obi's character development.  He is quite the "merry trickster" and his pot stirring rivals my own husband's (shh!  Don't tell him I said that.  Hee!).  Fortunately, it's all in good fun and extremely funny to read.


A new character enters the scene and she has something to do with Obi's past. Who could she be and is the "sauciness" just an act?  There all some evil Kiki x Mitsuhide teasing...too cruel...way too cruel...

There's also a lot of talk about "change" in this chapter.  I found it rather strange since Zen and Shirayuki have already kissed at least a couple of times.  I would think that they would be beyond the point of timidly linking fingers.  I'm a bit confused because in my mind as soon as two friends kiss and confessed to one another, the relationship has moved beyond "friendship".  Seriously, they should go find a back shed, a barn, or some darkened dungeon to go secretly make-out in.  Linking fingers for 10 seconds is lame and a cop-out!  Obi and the rest seriously need to catch those two red-handed so we can cut the shy bull crap...meh...

Akagami no Shirayukihime Chapter 24

This was supposed to come out a little over a week ago, but sometimes life takes unexpected and sad turns, and people have to stop everything to observe the passing of a life.  It's difficult to take the passing of someone your own age.  I didn't know the deceased well, but her death did cause me to pause and assess my own mortality.  All I have to say is life is fragile, so make everyday your best :).

Anyhow...here's Akagami no Shirayukihime chapter 24.  This chapter taunted and teased me the whole time.  It really fought against get done.  Hahaha!  But it's done and I can get on with translating "Magnolia" now.

My Thoughts on the Chapter

I was happy to see Shirayuki at the beginning acting very proactive and working with Kadzuki to rescue herself.  I'm glad she got to employ some of her chemistry knowledge.  It's too bad Sorata decided to have those efforts fail and at the end Shirayuki's imprisoned again and praying for Zen to save her.  =_=  I pray Kiki is there to get Shirayuki out and that she doesn't become yet another damsel in distress for Mitsuhide to save.  Can Kiki actually fight?  I don't think we've seen her in action.

Zen:  Getting fiercer :).  I like it.  I don't want him to totally lose his cool, but I do like the resolve he's showing.

Obi:  Uh...I'm not sure what to make of page 22.  What was he thinking Zen was referring to?

Shirayuki is not a princess -- no, rather, Kadzuki decided to butt into a situation he didn't fully understand and liberate her from some misguided royalty.   It's quite anticlimactic.  Sigh...so now what?  I'm not even sure I care at this point.  Truthfully, I just want to see Obi cut down a bunch of pirates.  I think the steam ran out for me when Shirayuki started crying for Zen to save her again...meh  =_=  The only thing men should have to save women from is pumping gas...

Akagami no Shirayukihime Chp 23

The long wait is over!  This was a tougher chapter than usual in terms of translation, cleaning, and redrawing than usual.  I think most of our active cleaners helped out on this chapter.  I think we are all glad to have this chapter over with!  Phew!

Well, the chapter didn't go as I expected, but my random wish for pirates in the story did come true!  Hooray for pirates!

Spoiler Alert! Spoiler Ahead!

My thoughts on the chapter:

I'm so happy about the introduction of pirates into the story.  Perhaps now there will be more action and some real danger in the story.  With this, though, comes the risk that Shirayuki will become the helpless "damsel in distress".  We've seen no evidence in the past that Shirayuki can fight or that she has any fighting spirit.  Plus, in this chapter she seems dazed and confused.  I was hoping that she didn't swallow the sleeping pills and instead was pretending.  Meh... And then her last thought about Zen was rather disappointing.  I would have rather seen an angry and determined look on face and her thinking, "I've got to get out of here!" and then saying, "Kadzuki, you got any weapons on you?"  Even peace loving Yuda in ZHD was packing heat and learning to fight before the end of the story.  Maybe Shirayuki will use her chemistry skills to do something clever with Kadzuki's sleeping pills.

Shirayuki and the mountain folk...so what's up with these mountain folk?  I hope they are bandits and that Shirayuki is their princess.  I imagine the pirates want to use Shirayuki as a bargaining tool with the mountain folk.

Kadzuki -- meh...he's now one of the many guys trying to save Shirayuki.  Perhaps since he was once in the pirate gang, he'll know something about how to escape from them.

Obi -- I love seeing Obi angry!  At this point he and Zen seem to be overlapping.  Is Zen going to try to catch up with Obi, or is he doing a separate effort to find Shirayuki?  Maybe Obi and Zen will meet up at the mountain and launch their effort from there.  I kinda wish the story would let Obi do his violent ninja thing to get Shirayuki back.  Maybe Zen can hang out with the mountain folk while Obi and the rest take down the pirates.  What good is having a personal assassin if you don't let him loose on your enemies once in a while?

Chapter 24 comes out on April 9th in Japan.  If the chapter is as complicated as this one, it may take us 3 to 4 weeks again to put out translation.

Next up are chapter 6 and 7 of "Pika Ichi"!

Akagami no Shirayukihime Chapter 22

Here is "Akagami no Shirayukihime" chapter 22.  I get the impression after reading this chapter that Shirayuki is in no real danger, but rather the folks after Shirayuki are probably Raji's adoring siblings.  I hope I'm wrong, because if the siblings then I'm going to be SUPER PEEVED.  Anyhow...it would make sense as far a Izana not being all that concerned about the people after Shirayuki.  He's probably laughing his ass off in the castle as Zen gallops off to the rescue Shirayuki from a 10-year old.

Anyhow, I noticed while cleaning this that the artwork has a more of a "hand drawn" feel than usual.  In that sense the drawings felt very intimate and that was somehow reassuring to me.  I think Shirayuki's ball gown is elegant in its simplicity.  It kinda makes be want to see her paired up with a guy while wearing it.

With the way this is going, I feel I would be happy if this series ended at chapter 24.  I imagine in the next chapter Zen, with his newly formed nuts, will ask for Shirayuki's hands and then in chapter 24, they can get married and live happily ever after.  Honestly, I think that's about all the AnS love I have left in me, so I hope it ends soon instead of dragging on.

"Akagami no Shirayukihime" Chapter 20

Sorry all, we don't find out anything about the pretty boy from the boat...however, as a consolation gift, I promise you a nice close up of Izana (*smokin'*).  Anyhow, this chapter appears to be the set-up for the chapter 21 which, according to the previews will be extra long.  It's too bad we have to wait until October.

After this we have another long 2-month wait until the next issue of Lala DX in August.  Hopefully, then we'll find out what bit of "sweetness" Zen whispered into Shirayuki's ear on page 44 ;p.  I'm also looking forward to tons of fun adventure time with Obi and Shirayuki.

Oh! and here's a link to Hyper Parfait for Sapphire Pyro's excellent AnS chp 19 write-up! It kinda makes me wanna write up a "smart-ass" version of the chapter...heheheh.

Next up is "Zettai Heiwa Daisakusen" chapter 17 followed by the either "Orange Chocolate" chapter 14 or "Kimi ni XOXO" chp 2.  I haven't decided yet which to translate first.  I'm equally excited for both right now.
